The Fair Food Pricing program gives qualified households a discount code to take 30% - 90% off the price of Farm Fresh Packages at our local nonprofit food hub, The Hub on the Hill. Every donation we receive will be used to subsidize the price of these food packages.

AdkAction creates innovative projects that address unmet needs, promote vibrant communities, and preserve the character of the Adirondacks. We have nine active projects, with Fair Food Pricing as the newest and the subject of this fundraiser.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we partnered with the Hub on the Hill to launch the Emergency Food Packages (EFP) project. The project succeeded in delivering 4,314 boxes containing the equivalent of 64,710 locally-grown meals to hundreds of Adirondack households in need while also supporting hard-working farmers across the region. Now, we need your help to make sure that the incredible momentum of the project is translated into lasting food systems change in our region.

Food from small-scale family farms is often more expensive than food at chain grocery stores, putting it out of reach for many Adirondack families. It is also more sustainable, ethical, and better for our local economy. We are working towards a future in which Adirondack farmers can feed the region and local families can afford to buy local food by subsidizing the cost of farm fresh products for qualifying families.

We are working to ensure that families who need help buying food continue to have access to locally-grown ingredients and nutritious meals delivered to their doorsteps long into the future, and that the new sales channel opened up for area farmers continues to grow. In October, our COVID-19 relief project officially transitioned into a two-pronged pilot program for a more lasting solution: farm fresh packages by the Hub on the Hill, and Fair Food Pricing by AdkAction.

The general public can now buy a farm fresh package (an evolved version of the EFP) along with other locally-produced food directly from the Hub on the Hill’s online store for pickup or home delivery. Consumers on SNAP, or food stamps, can now use their benefits card to buy the packages, which are filled with a selection of farm fresh food, at a highly subsidized rate.

These farm fresh packages cost $66 to produce, but to help the many households struggling to get by this winter, AdkAction is subsidizing the price of the packages so that families in need can get get a big bag of healthy groceries delivered to their door for as little as $5 for qualifying income levels.
