We are excited to announce the launch of ACCESS Virtual Food Drives. Thousands of families are facing hunger in Jackson County - many for the first time due to the coronavirus pandemic and recent local wildfires. Taking action now is more important than ever.
What is it?
The virtual food drives allow us to buy food for our Jackson County neighbors. Virtual Food Drives allow you to choose what foods you would like to purchase for the food bank. These donations go directly to ACCESS so, when possible, we can purchase food from local grocery stores. As the Jackson County Regional Food Bank, we can leverage $1 to buy four meals to feed our community.
How to Participate?
You can donate on our general page
Simply shop for what items you would like to purchase for the ACCESS Food Bank or select a custom amount. You will then be prompted for payment information.
You can also choose to create your own fundraising page
This is a great opportunity to create an impact on your own. Select the “I Want To Fundraise For This” link and then select “Create My Own Page”. You will be prompted to create a name for your fundraising page and to create an account with GiveLively, our donation servicer. After this, you will be given an opportunity to upload a photo and to tell your friends why this cause is so important to you. Once you create your page, share it all over the place! Remember to be consistent and encourage friends to participate.
You and your friends, family, or coworkers can create teams to fundraise together
Have a bit of a competitive group of friends, family, and coworkers? Want to win at all costs?
Host a team fundraiser. Select the “I Want To Fundraise For This” link and then select “Create a Team” (or if you want to be part of an existing team, select “Join a Team”). You will be prompted to create an account with Give Lively, our donation servicer. Create an amazing, captivating, and fun name for your team. You will be walked through the process of creating a Team Page. As the creator, you will become the Team Leader so you can post updates, manage team members, and customize the page. Add a short description of your team, why the cause is important to you, and your team's goal (say $500, or even $2,000 - or more - if you’re feeling up to the challenge). Set a goal for your teammates too (just divide up the larger goal amount).
Organizations can create Teams to create a Virtual Food Drive for their organization
We love it when organizations come together to support a cause. Over the years, hundreds of local organizations have hosted food drives. With Virtual Food Drives, you can now either “Create my Own Page” if you want your employees to donate on a single portal or “Create a Team” if you want to encourage your employees to participate by fundraising on their own. We value our relationships with our community partners, so if you want us to create the page for you or do an orientation for your business, email email@example.com
We hope to continue to utilize Virtual Food Drives long after the current pandemic subsides. We truly hope that it can prove to be a positive resource for those who want to help others.
ACCESS wholeheartedly appreciates your support; we know you care deeply about your neighbors and want to help. We hope Virtual Food Drives give you a fun and easy way to do so.
Together we #buildcommunity. Happy Fundraising!
Q & A
Why Virtual Food Drives and not normal food drives?
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, we would require any donated food that comes in from a food drive to be quarantined for a period of time. This means that valuable space in our warehouse, which is undersized for what our community needs, has to be utilized to solely quarantine food, thus reducing usable space for the food we are actively distributing throughout the county.
When I donate what happens next?
You will get an email with the receipt of your donation; keep this in your records for tax purposes. After you donate we highly encourage you to share the campaign with your friends and family and to share it across social media.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
ACCESS is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. Our EIN is 93-0665396. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record.
Where does my money go?
Your donation stays 100% local with all proceeds going to ACCESS. We can then leverage these funds to buy foods at a discounted rate with our partner grocery stores and the Oregon Food Bank. This food then gets distributed to area food pantries.
This is exciting! How do I share?
You will see icons on the campaign landing page to share on Facebook, Twitter, email, and via a link. We encourage you to share it with your friends and family and share it across social media. Word of mouth marketing is one of the strongest methods to get a message shared. Your Virtual Food Drive can help us feed thousands of families.
Disclaimer: Proceeds from gifts made through this Virtual Food Drive go directly toward the fight to end hunger in Jackson County where they are needed most. Virtual Food Drive prices are based on average costs available to the ACCESS Food Bank at the time of writing.
