As a creative person living and working in Freeport for almost 25 years, I have often dreamed that one day my town would become a place that offered arts and cultural experiences in addition to outlet shopping. Of course, visiting L.L. Bean will always be an exciting event for visitors. But I would often think, “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Freeport were a place to gather with friends to view art, take in music and theater, and participate in other fun and unique experiences?” With all the changes that are taking place in the retail market and the current health crisis, now more than ever we need a place that will uplift us.
Over the last five years, the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Freeport (ACAF) has conducted a tri-town survey and cultural inventory, led the creation of the Freeport Cultural Plan, held an amazing professional development workshop, provided exciting creative programming for children and raised funds for Meetinghouse Arts, which will be a creative hub in our community. I’m excited to see what the next five years will bring.
As we all know, it takes funding to make this important work happen, and friends, ACAF needs your help. Please join me in making a donation to the ACAF annual campaign.
In 2020, the cost of maintaining ACAF operations and the numerous cost that come with operating a new space will be more than twice the previous budget. Without help from community members like you and me, it will not be possible for ACAF to continue supporting local artists, makers, performers, and writers. The work they do to provide an organized creative network, professional development opportunities, and event promotion, as well as maintaining Meetinghouse Arts, is key to our community’s future as a vibrant cultural destination.
If we raise $20,000 by December 31, we can keep their good work going. If 200 community members give $100, we can fund 5 months of ACAF operations. By acting now, we can make a real difference. Make your gift via check, online, or by texting FOSTERARTS to 44-321. Please join me in supporting a community organization that offers so much.
