Though Earth Day is officially April 22nd, Big Reuse aims to steward the earth every day.

With support from our community, we work tirelessly to fight climate change through community-based environmental and zero waste initiatives.

In 2024, our Street Tree Care team stewarded over 800 trees with help from over 2000 volunteers, including 800 youth volunteers. We piloted our first tree planting in Astoria, launched a more affordable tree guard installation program with CM Restler, and hosted workshops for community-led tree care. Our Reuse Center diverted 130,000 home goods, 61,000 pieces of clothing, 81,000 pieces of furniture, and 35,000 books from the landfill, and serves as a community hub for recycling, where we collect paint, ewaste, and corks. We also brought back our Community Composting team - which reopened 18 Food Scrap Drop sites, restarted the Master Composter Program, installed new 3-bin composting systems at community gardens, and hosted over 150 volunteers.

Every day, Big Reuse staff work to empower NYC residents to become stewards of their environment and keep waste out of the landfill. In honor of Earth Month, we are asking for support from our community to continue doing this important work. Now more than ever, we need to be a resource for new yorkers working towards a sustainable and equitable future.
