Become a Member

As part of BlackStar’s membership program, you become part of a constellation of radical visionaries, creative thinkers, and community collaborators. Your investment ensures we can continue building upon the legacy and wisdom of our elders and ancestors, while creating a more liberatory future for Black, Brown, and Indigenous artists.

All member tiers receive an exclusive subscription to our bimonthly membership newsletter, a discount on merchandise, special invites to members-only BlackStar events and early access to discounted BlackStar Film Festival passes.

Membership can be paid through a one-time gift or recurring monthly gift at any of the following levels: Film Archivist, Film Enthusiast, and Film Scholar.

Film Archivist - $75 one-time gift or $7 recurring monthly gift

Film Enthusiast - $250 or $25 monthly recurring gift

Film Scholar - $500 one-time gift or $45 recurring monthly gift

Membership Terms and Conditions

Membership terms span 12 months from the initial date of donation. For example, a gift made on July 9, 2025 would expire the following year on that same date. Once a qualifying gift is made, our Development team will reach out within 3-5 business days to discuss your benefits.

Benefits may be subject to change, members will be notified in advance. Membership is considered a tax-deductible gift and is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Benefit eligibility is dependent on the launch date of each respective BlackStar program. Certain programmatic-related benefits will not be fulfilled, if the program has occurred prior to membership enrollment.

Luminary Giving Circle

The Luminary Giving Circle is a community of high-level donors dedicated to the evolution and continuous expansion of BlackStar, our programming, and our organization’s global network of artists. Your generous contribution ensures that we can continue crafting spaces of imagination and exploration. Contributions can be made in the form of a one-time gift or a recurring monthly donation. The Circle contains four separate tiers of giving: Sparkle, Shine, Star, and Galaxy. All donors are listed by name on our organization’s website (unless noted otherwise).

Luminary Circle members are recognized by their cumulative giving total to the annual fund.

Shine - $5,000-$9,999

Star - $10,000-24,999

Galaxy - $25,000+
