Imagine a small child, David, living in Ancient Israel under Greek rule. He knows that he has to duck out of sight when the Greek Soldiers come around. He is not allowed to go out to the market or play outside. He is lonely and misses the way things used to be. He misses most of all feeling part of a community and the friends he used to have.

Does that sound familiar to you?

Scott is a freshman from Westchester. He spends most of the time in his room, rarely leaving for breaks or food. His grandfather died, and he had no one to share this with, so all he did was post about it on his Instagram. He couldn’t even go to the funeral. Before Covid-19, he was looking forward to college to make friends and part of the community.

His parents wish there is something they can do.

Scott is real. He is alive right here today. He needs your help.

And he’s not the only one.

Many students are suffering from loneliness and depression. They need to feel part of a strong, loving, and supportive community.

You can help them. You can be a Maccabee. Just like the Maccabees of old who won the war, lit the Menorah, and reunited the community.
