After launching in September 2019, we closed our physical doors at 38 Lafayette Avenue on March 12th, and opened our virtual doors to BKI Online the very next day. Our six-month-old school has had to provide consistency and responsiveness amidst an international crisis. We have had to learn quickly, act faster, and listen closely as we navigated uncharted waters. We have had to reinvent all systems, all procedures, and all learning. It has been no small feat.
Thanks to past supporters:
We have only been through three quarters of the school year, and cannot stop now. We are fired up to finish this year strong, and committed to tripling our size and impact this September with two incoming 6th grade classes.
With all of our spring fundraisers canceled, we are called once again to get creative. We built Brooklyn Independent with our supporters, and now will strengthen it with our supporters.
Now - more than ever - we need you to stand up for Brooklyn kids. Every child across Brooklyn deserves access to an exceptional education - no matter the obstacles in front of us.
Brooklyn Independent (BKI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit middle school founded by two passionate educators with the core belief that diversity is vital to the educational experience, especially during the formative years of 6th-8th grade. Situated within the most segregated public school system in America, Brooklyn Independent offers a sliding-scale tuition model to ensure that all families can access an excellent education.
