In November 2020, two category 5 hurricanes, Eta and Iota, pounded Nicaragua, causing loss of lives and millions of dollars in damages to a country already struggling with a severely battered economy and some of the highest poverty rates in the Americas.

The hurricanes did not spare our partners from the El Porvenir coffee cooperative: intense winds and rains uprooted trees and coffee plants, washed out roads, damaged solar panels and roofs, and most critically caused major damage to the cooperative’s water tanks. These water tanks capture rainwater for drinking, cooking, and bathing. They also supply water for irrigating coffee plants and other crops. A reliable, safe water supply is absolutely essential not only for growing crops but also for keeping El Porvenir’s residents healthy — especially during the pandemic.

Our goal: $5,000 by March 27th

DONATE TODAY to support El Porvenir’s efforts to rebuild their water tanks and maintain their livelihoods and health. Community members are supplying all the labor and any materials that they have on hand, but they need our help to finish the job!

For over fifteen years this amazing community has been our partner, forging sustainable livelihoods by producing the organic, shade-grown coffee that we enjoy in Pittsburgh and beyond. Please consider a donation of any amount to help them in this moment of severe need.
