Founded in 1982, the mission of Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen is to feed the hungry, comfort the afflicted, seek justice for people experiencing homelessness, and provide hope and opportunity to those in need. Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen is one of five major emergency food programs in the City, and is the largest soup kitchen in the State.

Through its daily meal service, the soup kitchen provides over 1,000 prepared, hot meals each weekday to residents in need and through its pantry program, Holy Apostles provides groceries for over 20,000 meals each week. Beyond the quantity of meals served, Holy Apostles is dedicated to providing nutritious food that will sustain and nourish their guests, designing each meal with health and a balanced diet in mind.

The program offers services that nourish the body as well as the soul. In addition to meals, guests have access to social services and workshops that help them navigate toward improved health, housing and jobs. The organization has never missed a meal service in its 38-year history, even in the aftermath of a devastating parish fire in 1990, the power outage and city-wide havoc caused by Hurricane Sandy, and after the tragic September 11th attacks. This track record remains true even today in the midst of the current global health pandemic.
