Farm to Tray is Holy Apostles’ annual fundraising event and a celebration of food and community. Every year, well-respected culinary figures from across the city come together to create sustainable, nutritious menus that mirror the soup kitchen’s vision for nourishing struggling New Yorkers.
On September 24, 2020, Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen will host its 8th Annual Farm to Tray, this year pivoting to a virtual event as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The event is a culmination of the soup kitchen’s year-round campaign against hunger and food waste, two issues which have been exacerbated by COVID-19. With restaurants, hotels, and schools closed for indefinite amounts of time, farmers across the country, including in upstate New York, have been forced to destroy millions of pounds of food. At the same time, more and more New Yorkers are experiencing economic hardship and seeking food assistance. Since mid-March, Holy Apostles has served over half a million meals, surpassing its projections for the entirety of 2020 and setting a new record for meals served throughout our 38-year history.
Every year, Farm to Tray raises vital funds that strengthens Holy Apostles’ ability to improve the lives of fellow New Yorkers through meal outreach and social service programs. This year, the event will also celebrate a myriad of partners who have made it possible for the soup kitchen to remain open and meet the unprecedented increase in need.
