Rev. James M. Lawson was one of the Black freedom movement's leading theoreticians and tacticians. He helped launch the 1960s Nashville lunch counter sit-ins and Freedom Rides, and over the past 50 years has heavily influenced the worker and immigrant rights movements in Los Angeles.
