Through its professional company and education centers in NY and VA, Cora Dance creates transformative dance experiences while addressing barriers that limit access to the art form. Cora programs bring diverse people together to find common ground, enabling artists, students, audiences, and community members to connect authentically through dance. All programs are FREE and PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN—no one is turned away for lack of funds.

The Shannon Hummel/Cora Dance Professional Company, led by Founder and Choreographer Shannon Hummel, is central to this work. Presenting Hummel’s emotionally resonant choreography while expanding access to professional dance in underserved communities, the company tours nationally while grounding its work in three core locations: Cora Dance Alleghany (CDA) in Virginia’s Alleghany Highlands; Cora Dance Brooklyn (CDB) in Red Hook, NYC; and Richmond, VA, where the company partners with schools and studios to develop SHCD choreography. Core SHCD artists lead year-round education at CDA and CDB, anchoring a distinctive model that provides accessible, high-quality programs led by working professional dancers.
