InSite stages stories that stir up conversation about things that matter to us in Waco. This season we've shown you timeless and universal stories in three Shakespeare Studio productions at Brotherwell Brewing. Add some spectacle - lights, music, sound effects - and any place becomes a theatre.

We've yet to meet our match

InSite received a commitment of $9,000 from Creative Waco's Arts Match Program (AMP) matching grant to support the three Shakespeare Studio productions and purchase equipment for those and future productions.

We've already raised much of our match in ticket and concessions sales, one-time donations, and in-kind donations from community partners.

To receive the remaining $5,000* in matching funds, we need your support.

Making space for performance in Waco

Most of the remaining AMP grant money is earmarked for purchasing portable lighting and sound equipment that will allow us, and other performers and organizations around Waco, to create a theatre anywhere we find a space.

We look forward to lending our equipment to others who are doing scrappy, innovative work like ours in found spaces. We’ve already offered what we have to Keep Waco Loud and Cultivate 7twelve, and we’ll be glad to help out other groups. We’ll only ask for a refundable damage deposit and that any staff time needed to help the borrower is compensated.

What we have and what we need

Lighting: If you saw Music, Magic, & Murder or Law & Order, you may have noticed our portable lighting rig. It runs with LED, low energy-consumption, bulbs so that we’re not asking much from our venues in electric costs. There are a few more pieces we need to purchase to make the lighting system fully functional, and we need a few special lighting instruments to give us more capacity for isolating space visually (right now all we can do is a “general stage wash”) and special effects.

Sound: We haven’t yet purchased sound equipment because what we personally owned and could borrow met our minimum needs for the Shakespeare Studios. But for outdoor performances we’ll need more powerful speakers; for more exact and elaborate sound editing and cueing we’ll need special software; for performing over other sounds (like traffic noise when outdoors or over instrumentation in songs) we’ll need to mic the actors.

"Although she be but little, she is fierce."

A lot of folks around Waco are excited about what we’re doing. We’re the only theatre company in Waco committed to performing downtown, paying all artists, reflecting the demographics of Waco in our artists and audiences, and making theatre attendance possible for all Wacoans.

Remember, every dollar you give is doubled through Creative Waco’s AMP Grant. Creative Waco is currently our fiscal sponsor (InSite is not yet an independent non-profit organization), and your gift to us, through Creative Waco, is fully tax-deductible.

We're so grateful for your interest and support, and look forward to a long future of challenging, engaging, and entertaining you!

*Here's how the math works: We can only claim half of our match in in-kind donations. So, although we've recently received $2,000 in in-kind donations, if we don't receive at least $2,000 in financial gifts, it reduces the amount we can claim for in-kind donations by that amount, too. So, for instance, if we only received $1,000 in financial support, that reduces the amount of in-kind donations we can claim to $1,000, which means we only get $2,000 of the $5,000 remaining AMP grant.
