Hi, I'm Luis and for as long as I can remember, I always wanted to complete an Ironman, however, I always let my fear of the water, inexperience in cycling and dislike for running stop me. Although I've never done a triathlon event before, last October I decided to face my fears and sign up for Ironman Texas (go big or go home, right?), which was scheduled to take place on April 18th, 2021 but it has since been cancelled due to COVID concerns.
My journey, however, was never about a specific race or a medal. It was about setting a big goal and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. And whether there's an actual race or not, that hasn't changed which is why I have decided to carry on and complete the iron distance triathlon on my own. My life motto is that smooth seas never made a skilled sailor; ships are safe in the harbor, but that's not what they're made for. So, on April 18th, I will heed my own advice and swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 miles within the 17-hour time limit.
The Darien YMCA has been an amazing partner throughout my training journey, and I am excited to partner with them to help raise funds to send kids to summer camp.
Each summer with support from generous donors, the YMCA helps local children, regardless of their ability to pay, have the opportunity to attend summer camp at the Y. This summer, the need will be greater than ever. Help me raise money to ensure more kids have the opportunity to UNPLUG, reconnect and have FUN! Just one camp experience can positively change a child’s life forever!
Thank you for your support!Luis
