As COVID-19 reshapes the American economy, Texas literary artists are disproportionately impacted by the crisis. Many writers work on a freelance basis and are facing reduced project income or have been laid off. With the publishing and book distribution industries on hold, Texas literary artists are experiencing dire financial insecurity.

That’s why we launched the Deep Vellum Emergency Fund for Texas Literary Artists. As a major independent nonprofit publisher in the state of Texas, we believe that it is our responsibility to take care of our artists. As long as funds last, we’ll be granting awards of $500 to Texas writers who demonstrate financial need.

Deep Vellum board member Paul Wingo has generously donated seed money to launch this campaign. Now we’re asking Texas book lovers to help us grow the fund. We’re grateful for support at any level.

If you'd like to contact us directly to donate, please send our development coordinator Lindsay King an email at lindsay@deepvellum.org.
