The Father's Heart is a local, community-based organization in New York City that is dedicated to helping vulnerable individuals overcome physical, social and economic challenges that are part of our evolving society.
We go beyond providing "band-aid" solutions that might temporarily alleviate a problem and offer a complementary set of programs that equip men, women and children break cycles of dependency and to lead transformed lives in their local communities.
Our programs welcome over 600 individuals each week from a diverse set of backgrounds. Our Hunger Prevention program served ~2,000 unique guests in 2018. We also organize GED and ESL classes, youth job training, a transition program for men overcoming poverty, homelessness and addiction, and a weekly after school children's program. We also partner with other local organizations to provide free-of-charge legal aid and health services.
We receive support from grants each year that off-set some costs of running our programs, but we have other operating expenses to keep the lights on and the water running. We operate in a delightfully charming, historic landmark building, and as an older building, we are mindful of repairs to maintain good upkeep of our physical facility.
We invest as much as possible in our programs, operating with a very lean staff and tremendous support from volunteers each week.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 to keep our programs running and to fund the behind-the-scenes infrastructure. Individual donors, like you, play a critical role in restoring dignity to vulnerable populations and empowering and equipping them to lead transformed lives that make a big impact on their local communities.
