Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity welcomes all churches to participate in our 2020 House of Faith Build to help build a house for Demetrice, a single mother who has overcome many obstacles in life and is hoping to give her family better opportunities for their future.
Please help us build Demetrice’s house for her and 13-year-old son through our “Virtual Nail Drive”! $20 buys a bucket of nails (it takes about 12,000 nails to build her house – or about 40 buckets!), $45 buys a pre-cut bundle of R-19 insulation (we need 15 for Demetrice’s house), $90 buys an interior door, $138 buys a double-hung window and $250 buys the front door. Please give what you can!
Demetrice was encouraged to sign up for the Habitat program by her sister, who passed away in 2019 just weeks after she was accepted into the Habitat program.
“I knew she had faith in me and believed I would become a homeowner.”
The belief her sister had in her along with the confidence she has gained while in the program, has fueled Demetrice on this journey.
Demetrice lived in section 8 housing for much of her adult life, and then was cost burdened by high monthly rental fees. She didn’t know how to save money or qualify for a traditional mortgage. Through the Habitat program show has learned how to budget, save, sacrifice and compromise. She is lucky to have a steady job with Acceptance Insurance and appreciates their great support during both Covid-19 and her Habitat journey.
Demetrice, like all Habitat Future Homeowners, has completed 50 hours of Financial Literacy and Homeowner Education Classes plus 300 hours of sweat equity to be eligible for her low-interest mortgage to buy her own home. Through our program we give strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter to our families in need.
