Back to school is a right of passage for kids everywhere. But this year, back to school promises to look very different. The uncertainty facing children and caregivers because of the pandemic is compounded for those also struggling with homelessness and housing insecurity.

You can help make the new school year a successful one for homeless and housing insecure students by helping families confront this uncertainty with the flexible tools and supplies they need.

This year, we’re looking to supply homeless and housing insecure youth with what they need to feel confident and prepared on day one, and keep them focused on learning throughout the year, including:

  • New back to school clothes and shoes
  • Laptops and headphones for online learning sessions
  • Mini bottles of hand sanitizer to take to the classroom
  • Child sized washable fabric face masks
  • Healthy snacks to keep families nourished

100% of donations will be used to supply homeless and housing insecure youth with items individualized to each family’s needs.

A monetary gift gives us the most flexibility to tailor supplies to each individual child's needs. In addition to monetary gifts, donations of the above items and gift cards to local stores like Target, Burlington, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, & Famous Footwear will be accepted at our Administrative Offices at 313 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie, NY M-F 9am - 4pm.

Donations can also be mailed or dropped off at Hudson River Housing at 313 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

In 2018, Hudson River Housing was the recipient of the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum Great Friend to Kids Award, inspiring us to establish our Great Friend to Kids Fund Drive. We’re proud to work with other local organizations like the Children’s Museum to make the lives of all kids in the Hudson Valley a little brighter.

Thank you to Camp Hillcroft and the International Children's Festival, sponsors of the 2020 Great Friend to Kids Campaign, for your generous donation!
