Polar Dips are supposed to be cold… not unsafe.

After reviewing updated condition data from the Reston Association, we’ve learned that Lake Anne currently has next-level ice—we are told that it is too thick to safely cut through without special tools, and that attempting to clear it could damage the docks. This makes safe water access impossible.

Therefore, the in-person Kiwanis Polar Dip on February 7 at Lake Anne is officially canceled. The ice coverage is simply more than can be safely managed, even with volunteers and emergency planning in place.

We know — this is a huge bummer. And honestly, anyone who signed up already proved they’re brave enough for this challenge.

So here’s our Plan B: The Virtual Polar Dip!

We’re inviting dippers from near and far to celebrate their Polar Dip spirit all February long by safely taking the plunge on their own — whether that’s a kiddie pool, a cold bucket of water dumped on your head, or even an ice-cold (clothed!) shower — and sharing it on social media so we can cheer you on from afar.

Different water. Same bold energy. Same great cause.

Thank you for being part of this wildly cool fundraiser — and for helping us keep it safe, smart, and still a little bit icy.

Food For Neighbors - tackling teen food insecurity by raising awareness, mobilizing communities, and partnering with Northern Virginia middle and high schools to connect vital resources with students
Camp Sunshine - providing hope, joy and community through unique experiences for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families
Kiwanis Youth Programs - fostering a community service as a core belief and developing leadership skills for students in elementary through high school
