In a recent survey of La Roche students, 25% said they would use a food pantry frequently if available, and 50% said they would need to use it occasionally if available. When questioned about how often a student’s food supply has been inadequate, almost 56% of those surveyed said it was inadequate at least once in the semester, some as often as five times a semester. And of those surveyed, 89% said that they would use a food pantry if they did not have an adequate supply of food.

La Roche began to address these numbers by starting the Providence Pantry. Student volunteers and other volunteers from Magdalen Chapel help stock and track items donated to the pantry and assist in helping those in need who come seeking assistance. Volunteers are trained to help students while respecting their dignity and privacy. Students are able to apply to get food and other goods from the intranet, as well as in person at the pantry.

The La Roche community has long been recognized for its generosity to those in need. The pantry will also accept gift cards from Giant Eagle and Trader Joe’s, as well as monetary donations. Thank you for your support both in prayers and donations for this important endeavor.
