Our work together is paving the way for better biking. Following our months of advocacy, the federal transportation bill, the document that sets our nation's transportation priorities for the next five years, is inching closer to becoming a law.

And it's great for people who love to bike.

Over the last year and a half, your calls for better, safer places to bike and walk were heard throughout the halls of Congress thanks to the League, our members, and our partners.

The Senate has already taken up our recommendations in their version of the transportation bill. Now, the House has also approved its version of the bill, the INVEST in America Act.

We don't say this lightly: this bill is transformative - it’s the first bill to approach real reform in almost 30 years and is not simply a reiteration of lukewarm policies from the past.

The INVEST in America Act includes so much of what we have asked for:

  • Increasing investments in safe and accessible networks for people biking and walking,
  • Instituting a national Complete Streets policy,
  • Reinstating the Bicycle Commuter Benefit,
  • Incentivizing states to fix dangerous roads and intersections, and
  • Increasing the amount of federal transportation funding provided to local communities through the Transportation Alternatives set-aside program

With your help, we'll keep up the pressure to ensure this important bill becomes a law that heightens our enjoyment of bicycling and grows the community of people who bike.
