The City of Los Angeles and Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez host its first-ever virtual ¡El Grito! telethon to provide additional relief to Angelenos hardest hit by COVID-19. The telethon launches on September 15th with ¡El Grito! and will run through October 15th during Latino Heritage Month.
CIELO is an indigenous women-led organization that serves as a link and resource for migrant indigenous Angelenos. CIELO fights for social justice for the indigenous community by providing language access rights, cultural preservation, and reproductive justice, addressing the social, economic, and cultural challenges.
CIELO’s Undocu-Indigenous Fund was created to address the needs of undocumented-indigenous Angelenos during the COVID-19 pandemic. The undocumented-indigenous community is the most vulnerable among Latinos during this time because they do not qualify for federal relief funds, face language barriers, and are at high risk of COVID-19 contraction since many are frontline essential workers in the service sector such as housekeepers, restaurant workers, and garment workers.
All proceeds from the telethon will provide direct cash assistance to undocumented-indigenous people residing in Los Angeles who do not qualify for government relief and have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
