It has been a long couple of months for all of us. While many contemplate when the hardships related to COVID-19 will “end”, at MAAP, we’re just beginning to understand the long-term impacts of this crisis on our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Over the past eight weeks, we have worked alongside our participant organizers everyday to meet some of the most basic needs of our community, to advocate for those needs we cannot meet ourselves, and for meaningful solutions for their survival during this crisis. Our staff, board, and community members have started planning for our collective future.

Generous contributions have allowed us to fill needed gaps and make our constantly evolving operations possible. Over the past 8 weeks this has been:

  • 753 (no-contact!) contacts with unhoused community members
  • 2,556 tents, sleeping bags, yoga mats, backpacks or other survival supplies distributed
  • 563 hygiene kits and menstrual hygiene kits handed out
  • 1043 pairs of socks provided
  • 285 people received shoes and clothing
  • 660 nutritious lunches as well as additional sandwiches, salads and snacks to-go
  • 7 handmade hand washing stations made and placed in locations where community members stay without access to running water

The further we get into this crisis, the more we realize what we have suspected all along--that this is a marathon, not a sprint. In order to continue our work sustainably, MAAP needs to do two things: 1) Hire another full-time staff member 2) Be as prepared as possible for the future challenges we can’t conceive of today; responding quickly in crisis is so much a part of what our members rely on us for.

We’re preparing for the road ahead, and we need your help. We are inviting you to join us for the long-haul and make a commitment to becoming a MAAP monthly sustainer.

For our MAAP May Month of Giving, our goal is to raise $2,500 in monthly donations. Over the course of a year, that $2,500 becomes $30,000. No monthly contribution is too small.

  • For $2.90 a month, you could buy a participant’s T pass to get to a shelter
  • $24 a month pays for 20 copies of each of our up-to-date resources lists for participants to access shelter, community meals, healthcare and more.
  • For $200 a month, you can provide MAAP with access to the internet, phone, and texting to stay connected with partner providers, valuable resource information, and for participants to pursue advocacy, employment, and housing opportunities.

MAAP will be here for as long as we’re needed; but we can’t do it without you.
