June, 2020 UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who donated. We are still actively accepting donations so we can continue to assist our relief fund applicants.

Even if you are unable to give, consider becoming an advocate by sharing the OCTG Artists Relief Fund to others. Share this page often and to as many people as possible.

----------------------------------------------

Theatre artists know all too well the realities of a gig-to-gig and paycheck-to-paycheck existence. With the recent closures of Orange County’s theaters surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, productions have been cancelled and postponed, and local theatre artists find themselves in need of financial support.

OC Theatre Guild recognizes that in these uncertain times, it may be months before our community will recover enough to bring jobs and opportunities back to the area. It is our hope that we can step in, step up and support those in need.

This is where you come in.

Consider making a donation in support of the actor with no audience to which to perform, the scenic designer with no stage in which to create their world, and the stage manager with no show to call. These artists, like many of their colleagues within the theatre, do not have the option to work from home. Their careers rely on a community service that has had to close its doors to the public.

Who should apply?

We encourage all individual theatre artists who live in the Greater Orange County area in need of support as a result of lost earnings due to the outbreak of COVID-19 to fill out our application. Currently, this assistance is not available for organizations or nonprofits. We are hoping the larger foundations in Orange County will step up to support organizations and nonprofits; our focus is on the gig-to-gig freelancers who need assistance now.

A few important notes:

1. Our goal is to make disbursements once per week depending on funds received. Applications will be reviewed objectively by a panel of volunteer board members from OC Theatre Guild. 100% of contributions will be allocated in support of the artists who apply to the fund. No volunteer receives any percentage.

2. All application information is kept confidential by the organizers and is not shared with any outside parties.

3. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. We will notify anyone who submits an incomplete application via email.

4. We want to help as many people as possible. The assistance we can provide is based on the amount of donations received, the number of requests we receive, and the requests we project will come in the near future. We are currently granting a minimum of $100 and a maximum of $1000 to each individual artist.

5. We will keep this fund open as long as artists have financial needs related to the outbreak of COVID-19 and donations are being made.

Where does my donation go?

Priority will be given to artists who reside in Orange County although artists in the surrounding areas are welcome to apply. It is our belief and hope that artists residing outside of Orange County will find aid opportunities in their local communities.

Depending on funding levels and number of requests, priority may be given to artists from communities that have been historically and systemically economically disadvantaged in the Greater Orange County area, but we will try to help as many artists with need in OC as we can.

Donations to the OC Theatre Guild are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
