Let’s Bring PPSC Mentor Me to Rohnert Park and Cotati!

The Inaugural Class of Leadership Rohnert Park (Class of 2020) is thrilled to help launch PPSC Mentor Me in the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District this coming school year! We are a group of twenty Rohnert Park community leaders who recently graduated from a 10-month long civic leadership training program sponsored by the City of Rohnert Park and facilitated by Coro Northern California

Our group recognized the significant value mentoring provides young people, especially those in difficult circumstances. We know that far too many young people in our community have parents and loved ones who work multiple jobs so they can put a roof over their heads and food on their tables. We know many young people feel disconnected and out of place in a world that is always connected online. We know that many young people in our community worry about being separated from their families. We decided to make a difference in the lives of young people by bringing PPSC Mentor Me to the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District.

PPSC Mentor Me is a thriving school-based (K-12) youth mentoring program in Petaluma with over 250 active mentorships. PPSC Mentor Me strives to make all children feel safe to connect with others and their community, feel empowered to grow into their highest potential and feel moved to contribute their talents to build a more positive world. PPSC Mentor Me matches each student with a volunteer adult mentor who commits to meeting once a week for two years.

Mentoring connects a young person to personal growth and development, and social and economic opportunity. Data from The National Mentoring Partnership showed that youth who were at risk of falling off track but had a mentor are:

  • 55% more likely to enroll in college
  • 78% more likely to volunteer regularly
  • 90% are interested in becoming a mentor
  • 130% more likely to hold leadership positions

With the help of the community, we can make this highly impactful program a reality in Cotati-Rohnert Park. Help bring PPSC Mentor Me to the Cotati-Rohnert Park Community by donating, signing up to be a mentor and/or helping us spread the word.
