Support Mental Health Awareness

Artist Tracy Ferron focuses on the healing power of public and community art to explore social injustice and the healing of trauma through art-making workshops and public installations. Tracy works with the symbology of winged hearts and cages to explore human rights and issues of imprisonment and liberation in our society. The goal is to amplify compassion for self, for others and the planet.

Tracy’s latest large artwork, “Unbound” and its healing community arts programming just received approval as a 3-month installation and project to begin in September 2021 at one of California’s largest mental institutions, Napa State Hospital (DSH-Napa). The project involves hundreds of DSH-Napa patients, staff and outside community groups making paper mâché winged hearts as part of “Unbound,” which is a 60-foot installation of winged hearts flying free from an antique birdcage. The hearts grow ever larger, from 6 inches to 9 feet, expanding and becoming more expressive as they fly free through Napa State’s 100-foot recreational hall.
