After hearing stories of racism and bias from high school students in our hometown of Petaluma, a group of community members started a group called Team for Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity (TIDE).
Who We Are:
TIDE is a community-led group exploring how to make our schools more safe, inclusive, and welcoming for all of our diverse TK-12 students, families, teachers, and administrators.
It is a goal that all schools in Petaluma -- from preschool to high school -- have a TIDE chapter of their own.
The citywide TIDE group is made up of representatives from each school and serves as a place of inspiration and collaboration for each school.
What We Do:
We discuss topics, provide training, and advocate for policy changes in our schools and community around subjects including (but not limited to): ethnicity, race, gender, LGBTQ+, socio-economic status, and physical and learning differences in our schools' culture, communication, events, and curriculum.
