With Rainbow Health's sudden closure, one of Minnesota’s largest queer-serving nonprofits, our community faces significant gaps in vital services. Trusted LGBTQ+ organizations are stepping up to fill these gaps swiftly, but we need your support.

PFund Foundation was born out of the early AIDS crisis when a small group of queer individuals pooled their resources to overcome health and legal barriers. Today, we carry forward this tradition of collective community care by raising and distributing essential operating funds to organizations like the Aliveness Project, Family Tree Clinic, and others. These funds will be equitably distributed among these well-positioned organizations to bridge the service gap left by the abrupt closure of Rainbow Health.

The Aliveness Project: Since 1985, this organization has been providing HIV prevention services, case management, housing assistance, mental health support, and more to those living with HIV.
Family Tree Clinic: Founded in 1971, this clinic offers community-based, client-centered healthcare and education, specializing in services for the LGBTQ+ community.
and other trusted community-led organizations that take on services not covered by the expertise of the Aliveness Project and Family Tree Clinic. This is an unfolding situation with many moving parts. We will update the community as we know which organizations take on other vital services.

Why not donate directly to the listed organizations?
This fund is not meant to compete with the organizations listed or other fundraisers. Our approach is to reach new audiences and connect more people to this vital work. Please donate directly today and on-going to our amazing grantee partners!

How is the money going to be distributed?
On August 9th, we will take our total raised and distribute across the organizations taking on the services that were interrupted with the closure and distribute them proportionally to the size of those services (total # of services, number of clients reached, number of staff needed, etc. will be factored into the distribution). In the meantime, we will ask the recipients to prepare a Readiness & Resilience Fund application which will outline their plan for the funds, a preliminary budget, and timeline for the transition.

How will the fees and expenses be covered for donations?
PFund Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides this service and is committed to ensuring that all of the donated funds are distributed to our grantees. We welcome individuals to support PFund directly to provide this and other grant-making services across our region now and in the future. You can donate directly here.
