Hello dance lover,
We hope you have been safe and well during what is now year 2 of the pandemic and escalating social crises. This is the time where art perseveres to process current events, bring people together, heal, and inspire humanity. This is why we felt it important to keep our dance festival present for our community, providing a platform for dancers to share, and a place for audiences to connect and move with us!
Our 2021 summer tour ~May 15 to Oct 3 ~ will be a hybrid of live-streamed programming (mainly via social media) and limited in-person performances in outdoor spaces throughout Queens NYC. The Queensboro Dance Festival is presenting 24 Queens-based dance companies, where audiences will be able to enjoy free performances and dance classes all summer long.
Because we are committed to making high-quality, local dance free & accessible to the public, we rely on your donations to help pay for our artists, staff, and production equipment. As a traveling production dedicated to serving local neighborhoods, your support makes a direct and palpable impact to all who we serve.
Founded in 2014, our mission is to strengthen the dance community in Queens, and inspire a greater appreciation for Queens dance. We aim to represent the underrepresented dance cultures of our borough, and reach under served neighborhoods in arts & culture.
~QDF ACHIEVEMENTS & IMPACT~ To date, QDF is a vibrant network of over 120 diverse dance companies all from Queens and reaches about 10,000 audience members annually. Each summer, we tour about 15 neighborhoods throughout Queens theaters, parks, plazas, libraries, streets, and other uniquely Queens venues. In 2018, QDF was a Queens Pride honoree with Proclamation from City Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Public Advocate Letitia James, and in 2019 was awarded the LIC Game Changer award for Best in Arts & Humanities, and Citation from Assemblymember Cathy Nolan.
~OUR PROGRAMS~ We connect Queens dancers to one another, to Queens career resources, and to a wide Queens audience. We offer our dancers tour and teaching stipends, free master classes, rehearsal space, professional development workshops, and discounts to Queens arts institutions. We offer our audiences free performances & dance workshops, and an accessible way to engage with local dancers as fellow neighbors. We are proud to represent a slice of Queens dance and bring it to our shared communities, creating a unique experience of Queens for all!
~WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS~ QDF is truly a community effort, dedicated to creating a measurable, meaningful impact. Your donation is critical to sustain our program and grow its strength every year. Your support empowers us to remain a characteristic part of the cultural fabric in Queens. We strive to remain a strong, growing presence to embody that a Queens dance industry exists here, full of local and necessary dance workers worthy of greater foundational support from city and state agencies.
