The vision for this endeavor began early in 2019, the Shia Muslim Council has been leading the effort, along with other Muslim organizations, including Shura Council, MPAC, CAIR as well as other faith groups to influence LAX Airport Authority and Mayor Garcettii's office to provide a safe and clean designated area, for Muslims and non-Muslims to perform prayers and meditation opportunities while travelling through LAX.

In spite of many challenges including but not limited to COVID-19, SMC was informed by the LAX Airport Authority, that they have now allocated a specific room in the center of Tom Bradley Terminal. This Prayer Room will be fully paid for by LAX Authority. However, they have asked that interior furnishings be funded through local faith organizations. We expect the prayer room to be operational and ready for use in 3-6 months.

We are pleased and grateful to finally have a prayer room at LAX international airport to serve all Muslims. This initiative started as an idea on paper and with persistence and good leadership, Mashallah has transpired into an architectural plans, and soon, an actual room. This is another symbol of Shia and Sunni Unity through collaboration on common goals. Furthermore, this project has created another opportunity for the Interfaith community to work closer together.

In the meantime, and as sadiqqa jarriya, please contribute toward the furnishing of the Prayer/meditation Room at LAX international airport
