Refugees and immigrants face complicated social issues that can be obstacles to employment

pathways and natural social integration including: language barriers, complex job skills, lack of access to safe and reliable transportation and the high cost of child care. At Refugee Artisan Initiative, our mission is to transform the lives of refugee and immigrant women by providing sustainable employment in sewing and handcrafting products. We provide free training and tools so each woman has the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to make our beautiful fabric inspired jewelry, accessories and sewn goods. We focus on using materials that can be repurposed or upcycled. We believe employment opportunity in the most vulnerable population and sustainability can go hand-in-hand. We have also begun partnering with local companies that want our artisans to make high quality small batch goods. This collaboration gives our artisans the opportunity to maximize their skills and increase their earning potential.

Our program enables artisans to become more self-reliant, build valuable job skills, develop social connectivity and empowered to make meaningful contributions to the financial well-being of their families.
