The Early Cancer Detection Fund was founded by Paul Mazzilli and Sharon Pickett whose son Nick was diagnosed with cancer after receiving his required physical for a summer internship at Sun River Health. This fund now supports our cancer screening services program and has helped to provide an early cancer diagnosis for over 200 patients.
Sun River Health gives special focus to screening for breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer, three of the most common types of cancer affecting our patient population.
• Over 40,000 women die of breast cancer in the United States every year, with the highest rates in African-American women
• An estimated 1.3 million people are currently living with colorectal cancer in the United States, with a five-year survival rate for 65% of those who are screened
• When diagnosed in the earliest stages, there is a 92% survival rate for cervical cancer
