Sponsor a candle to honor the New Yorkers lost to COVID-19. Interested individuals and organizations can sponsor a candle by clicking on the "Dedicate This Gift" button below the donation amounts. After donating, sponsors will receive an email with directions on how to send a photo and short caption commemorating the individual for whom the candle will burn.

Students from the Urban Assembly School of Emergency Management are constructing a COVID-19 memorial exhibit made of approximately 26,000 battery operated tea light candles for each of the New Yorkers who were lost to COVID-19. The tea lights will be arranged to spell "Hope" on our baseball field, which is located under the iconic Manhattan Bridge and just steps away from the East River. The exhibit will “burn” from Friday March 12th at sundown until Sunday’s March 14th during the Citywide Remembrance. Our students come from the zip codes hardest hit by COVID in NYC, and we will invite other similarly impacted students across the city to participate in building the candle memorial. Special preference will be given to students who have lost parents, siblings and close family members to COVID-19. The field’s perimeter fence will be used as a canvas for UASEM’s Geometry students cross-disciplinary project “Frontline Worker Tributes.''

Interested individuals and organizations can sponsor a candle for $3.00. Sponsors will have the opportunity to send a photo and short caption commemorating the individual for whom the candle will burn. Proceeds from a “tea light sponsorship” will be to support UASEM’s Community Preparedness Fund, which implements community readiness programs in the most vulnerable parts of NYC, many of which are where our students live. Projects include Hands Only CPR instruction which was previously seed funded for $10,000 from our friends at the Shippy Foundation, as well as First Aid training, “Stop the Bleed” education, and “Go Bag'' assembly and distribution.
