When the weather turns cold, hundreds of families in Aroostook County struggle to pay their energy bills that allow them to stay warm. Nationally one in five households live in fuel poverty, which means a household cannot keep their homes adequately warm or safe at a reasonable cost. We are seeing an even higher average in Aroostook County and this year we anticipate the need to be even greater.

United Way of Aroostook will once again partner with WAGM TV and Aroostook County Action Program to host the fourth annual Helping Hands for Warm and Safe Homes Telethon. This county-wide event will take place on Thursday, November 19th from 5:30am-8pm, live on WAGM TV.

We were ever so grateful for your support of last year’s event and are hoping we can count on you again this year to help us reach our goal of raising $60,000. We know, with your support, we can attain this goal so that our friends, family, and neighbors do not have to face the choice of whether to buy food or heat their home this winter.
