While we celebrate our blessings this holiday season, a growing number of families in our community are, instead, anxiously looking towards the holidays with concern. Struggling to find employment, keep homes heated and families fed – money for gifts will be very little, if any at all. A special holiday meal may not even be on the radar.

Each year, Waukee Area Christian Services, along with our hardworking volunteers and generous donors, puts in overtime to turn the holidays around for people utilizing our services. We put together special holiday dinner boxes that contain all the fixings for a festive meal that can be created at home, complete with turkey or ham, supermarket gift card, multiple side options and dessert. In addition to the dinner box, we also offer toys and the opportunity for clients to “shop” for their loved ones. Dark colored bags are provided so that children visiting the food pantry with their parents do not see the gifts being selected.

It is our busiest time of the year. We anticipate this holiday season to top all previous records. Thank you for anything you can do to share your holiday joy with our clients this year.
