Four districts working together to create a safer, stronger Grand Rapids.

Last year, Lions & Rabbits took a small portion of an improvement district and transformed it. Within a few weeks, eight local artists painted murals “After Dark.” 

We invited local neighbors, businesses, artists and friends to participate- and threw a killer fundraising party for corridor improvements. I mean ask the 2,000+ people that showed up or check out the pictures. ​

We listened to the feedback and we are working to host four beautification efforts in, four different neighborhoods followed by four community events on four different dates this summer. We are calling them “.After Dark”

As you know, our neighborhoods are uniquely created. We are working alongside each district to ensure their events are tailored to perfection. We understand how important it is to have each community members’ voices heard. That’s why we are training an artist and business representative from each neighborhood. They are learning how to go through this process from start to finish. Each with their own goals leading them to their own future projects to develop their neighborhoods.

Artists and vendors participating are represented directly within these neighborhoods. We are celebrating the community by rallying the City as a whole to engage with us. All the while, we are making this experience a fundraising effort that is essential for the growth of these communities.

Each event will have a similar itinerary starting with a Corridor Clean Up. At each event you will be sure to see the following:

  • Artisan Market 
  • Kids Activities / designated in an alcohol free zone  
  • Food & Drink / Local food trucks and food vendors from the neighborhood. Local draft beer and seltzer, liquor, wine and more to drink- alcohol sales towards fundraising. Buy a supporting cup and get $1 off drinks at all four parties!  
  • Local Business Market / zip code specific vendors 
  • Resource Fair / public service and nonprofit resources  
  • Entertainment / Local djs, bands and performance artists 
  • Beautification Efforts / Cleaning of the event boundaries, multiple murals, some outdoor seating and some little pieces of pizzazz per location!  

How can you participate?

From assisting an artist, planting a flower or handing out water, everyone plays a part in the success of these events. 

  • VOLUNTEER Beforehand, during or after- we need you.
  • LIKE, FOLLOW AND SHARE all four events on Facebook and Instagram!  

Every Dollar Counts!

The more the merrier. The funds that are raised from each party go back to the district for beautification efforts. This could be planting, decorations, more art, trash cans, whatever the district is working towards. Liquor, beer and wine sales are disbursed to the districts.
