The Alaska Department of Fish & Game and the Alaska Chapter of the American Fisheries Society are hosting a two-day electrofishing course in Anchorage from May 21-22, 2025. The in-class portion of the course will cover the theory, application, and safety of backpack electrofishing through PowerPoint lectures, gear demos, and laboratory exercises. Then, a local field trip will familiarize students with standard equipment, protocols, and data collection while sampling fishes. The course is required for electrofishing projects permitted by ADF&G’s Aquatic Resource Permits. Registration is open through May 2. Participants are encouraged to bring the backpack electrofisher and dipnets they will be using in the field to this class.
