New York Review of Architecture aims to reinvigorate design criticism through unconventional means, publishing ambitious writing that treats architecture not as a niche profession, but as a public matter entangled with politics, culture, and everyday life.

Taking Ada Louise Huxtable’s collegial nudge to “kick a building” as an editorial mandate and gleeful provocation, NYRA is skeptical of authority and speaks to a curious reading public about the relations between material culture and economic power. We elevate impassioned positions over PR and punditry, flamboyant critique over dutiful prose. We embrace the slowness of print and wield it as an instrument of attention. With the aid of our murine mascot, we flout the slick visual codes of mainstream architecture publishing, prompting readers to rethink whom design criticism is for and what it can be.

Each year NYRA gathers its staff, writers, and friends to celebrate the magazine. This year's festivities will take place on November 10th at The Century, with a private dinner in the gallery followed by an afterparty downstairs. Each ticket includes one seat at the dinner as well as entry to the afterparty.

We hope to see you there!
