Mark your calendars for the opening of two new exhibitions at Art Enables, "Glow in the Dark" and "Consumer." Join us on Saturday, April 16, 4-7 p.m. to celebrate these new shows, enjoy complimentary wine and refreshments and mingle with the resident artists of Art Enables.

"Glow in the Dark"
This studio gallery exhibition shines, sparkles, and glows with different forms of light. These paintings and drawings feature subjects that glow in the dark in the traditional sense
like Mike Knox’s phosphorescent jellyfishand subjects that shine with electric or reflected light: Faith McLuckie’s cat eyes, Gillian Patterson’s spotlit ballerina, and the moon, which appears in many of the works. Some hold their own metaphorical light, as in Helen Lewis’ “People Going Out Dancing” with figures painted on a flushed field of red and orange, or Jay Bird’s abstracted “Lovers at Night.” As a whole, the show presents subjects that are seen most clearly in the context of contrasting darkness, evoking feelings of wonder, mystery, and magic.

"Consumer"
"CONSUMER" considers not only what we desire, buy, and consume as human beings but also the resulting accumulation and waste. The exhibition shares a mixture of 2D and 3D works presenting products in various states: appealing depictions of some of our favorite foods and merchandise, painted and redesigned food and drink packaging, and festive garlands
by Art Enables artists and visiting artist and collaborator Amy Boone-McCreeshmade from the detritus of our daily lives: plastic bags, receipts, scraps of fabric, bubble wrap, old drawings, paper cups and plates, and a variety of food and drink wrappers and bottles. The allure of these objects is evident in their colors, textures, images, and abundance, but "CONSUMER" artists ask you to consider, also: what happens to that abundance once we discard it?

Art Enables is dedicated to providing access to everyone. Please email info@art-enables.org or leave a note when you RSVP to request accommodation.
