The Aspire Center of Workforce Innovation invites you to a powerful evening of storytelling, dialogue, and community building at the Kehrein Center for the Arts. Join us for a special screening of Beyond Closure, a one-hour documentary produced by Borderless Studio and On the Real Film that explores how three former Chicago public schools—Emmet Elementary (Austin), Woods Academy (Englewood), and Overton Elementary (Bronzeville)—have become symbols of resilience and reimagination in the face of mass school closures.

Through the voices of community members, organizers, and leaders, Beyond Closure documents the transformation of these shuttered schools into community-led spaces that serve new, powerful purposes. From education to art, healing, and economic development, the film offers a moving testament to the strength and vision of South and West Side residents.

Following the screening, we’ll host a one-hour panel discussion featuring local experts and changemakers to unpack the film’s themes and share insights on policy, design, organizing, and the future of community-driven developments.

This event is open to educators, organizers, students, funders, policymakers, and anyone passionate about community revitalization, justice, and reclaiming public space for the public good.

Guided tours of the Aspire Center will be offered before the screening, at select time slots between 4:00-5:30 PM. Learn about the history of the building, its role in economic and community development, and the programs that are transforming Central Avenue. Pre-registration is required.
