Wells College Golf Course 170 Main St, Aurora, NY
The
Zabriskie Memorial Golf Tournament is held each year in appreciation of
John and Les Zabriskie for their involvement and support to the
community and the Boy Scouts of America.
John L. Zabriskie was a jovial and affable man; his enthusiasm was contagious and he spent his energy freely. His sphere of activity reached all facets of the community working in virtually every capacity. John was involved with the Red Cross, Civil Defense, Salvation Army, and the Holland Society of New York. He was president of the Cayuga County Council at the time of his death. For the Boy Scouts, John contributed over 40 years of dedication and support to an organization he loved.
Lesley Wead came to Aurora in 1939 to teach physical education at Wells. In 1946, she married John Zabriskie. As a young woman, Les was a competitive athlete playing semi-professional basketball, national field hockey tournaments, was named All-American in lacrosse, and served as President of the U.S. Women’s Lacrosse Association. Les was active with the Sherwood PTA, volunteered at the hospital, and served on the Board, was Trustee of Wells College and supported international efforts such as Project Hope and cancer research. She favored the Cayuga County Council, BSA.
The Longhouse Council thanks Steve Zabriskie for continuing on with the tradition of offering the Zabriskie Memorial Golf Tournament, commemorating John and Les Zabriskie.
