Turkish American Cultural Association of Michigan (TACAM) invite you to join us for an inspiring afternoon that highlights the power of unity and the promise of a brighter future for children affected by the earthquake in Türkiye

A powerful story of resilience, hope, and healing, Eskisi Gibi (Just Like Before) is a moving documentary that follows two teenagers who faced limb loss in the devastating February 6, 2023, earthquakes in Türkiye. Through the eyes of Aliye Dinç and Yaren Çiftçi—two young survivors rebuilding their futures—the film reveals the strength of solidarity and the transformative power of community support.

At the heart of the film is the camaraderie between Aliye and Yaren, two young amputee survivors whose friendship deepens during their rehabilitation at the Child Wellness Center in Adana’s Çukurova University—a holistic care center for child amputees made possible through the collaborative efforts of Turkish-American doctors and organizations including the Bridge to Türkiye Fund (BTF), Turkish Philanthropy Funds (TPF), the Assembly of American Turkish Associations (ATAA), the Hüsnü Özyeğin Foundation, and the Banks Association of Turkey, among others. Their story culminates in a moving return to Hatay, where they revisit their roots and find renewed hope for the future.

About the director

Sibel Karakurt, a graduate of Ankara University’s Faculty of Political Science, has produced numerous projects focusing on social issues and human stories as a film director, producer, and screenwriter. Her documentary “Ceska Cinayetleri” drew international attention and was broadcast on Al Jazeera International. She began her professional career in 2004 on the TV program “32. Gün.” Among her recent works are the documentaries Istanbul Lezzetleri, Istanbul’un Renkleri, and Doğunun ve Batının Ötesinde: Fatih Sultan Mehmet.

All proceeds will directly benefit BTF’s scholarship program for earthquake-affected students in Türkiye.
