In 2010, as Dilworth Center marked 20 years of serving the Charlotte community, we introduced the Wallace Godfrey Courage to Change Award to recognize the kind of leadership that makes recovery possible.
This award is presented each year to a professional who has devoted their career to serving individuals and families affected by substance use disorders.
The Courage to Change Award is named in honor of Wallace Godfrey, a long-time Dilworth Center leader who served as Director of Special Programs and led our adolescent treatment program. Wallace spent more than 25 years working in substance use disorder treatment, including over 13 years with Dilworth Center. Over the course of his career, he helped countless individuals and families move toward lasting recovery through his skills, training, and lived understanding. In recognition of the impact he made, Dilworth Center is proud to carry his name forward through this award each year.
