Stories are powerful. They connect us to our history, shed light on the truth, and invite us to imagine new possibilities. Our 2023 has been an exciting year of stories for us with the premiere of the Liwanag (Light) documentary that has inspired others to share #KwentoKo (my story) and join campaigns to end wage theft, stop Anti-Asian hate, and improve the safety and health of domestic workers in the workplace. These stories have been a bright light and necessary fuel for a growing movement clamoring for change.

In celebration of these stories and the movement for change, we invite you to join the Filipino Migrant Center (FMC) for our adobo cook off, Kwento Natin: Raise our Voices and Fight for Change. This will be a night of kainan (eating) and kwentuhan (storytelling) with the community.

We chose this theme to honor the many workers in our community who courageously share their stories of struggle and who have continued to fight and inspire others to stand up for justice. This year, our cook off competitors will show off their classic or vegetarian/vegan takes on adobo because behind everyone’s adobo is also a great story! Our program will also include a celebration of FMC's victories, community awards, and performances.

All funds raised will go towards FMC’s services and programs, including our new Emergency Services Fund established for community members with immediate needs such as victims of domestic violence or anti-Asian hate crimes,  or those in need of immediate support with food or shelter.
