In June of 2019, NYC FIRST launched the inaugural NYC FIRST Corporate Challenge – an exciting FRC-style competition pitting NYC FIRST Sponsors and Partners with and against local FRC teams. The NYC FIRST Corporate Challenge is an opportunity for each corporate team to build and program a robot, be mentored by NYC FIRST Staff and our extraordinary high school students, and compete with and against our best high school teams in a competition for NYC bragging rights.
In our inaugural year, we were joined by Bloomberg, Google, Goldman Sachs, Two Sigma, ad eventual winner AllianceBernstein. They were each partnered with two local FRC teams to form their three-team alliance, and strategized to take the top spot at the event. In addition to providing corporate employees with the opportunity to compete, it also flipped the script and place the high schoolers in the position of mentors for their corporate partners.
The NYC FIRST Corporate Challenge raises the level of awareness of robotics throughout New York City, helps to grow our volunteer pool, provides high school students with a vision of how their skills and passions can be nurtured in a corporate environment, and gave our corporate teams a unique opportunity to marvel at our extraordinary students while absorbing the essence of FIRST Competition.
