Week 1: Design Engineering (July 13- July 17)

Morning or Afternoon Session Tuition: $250/Week-Long Course

Morning AND Afternoon Sessions Tuition: $400/Week-Long Course

Morning Session: Intro to 2D Design

Design is all around us and you can be a designer! If you like to sketch and want to see your designs come to life, this course is for you.

From smartphone applications to print, the web and everything in between, we interact with 2D design on a daily basis. During this week, campers will familiarize themselves with the design process. We will use this as a guide to bring our ideas to life. We will go through the process of brainstorming an idea, sketching it out, making it real, whether physically or on the screen. Through this week's activities, campers will gain exposure to tools and techniques used by design professionals today.

Tech Tools: Vectr, Piskell, Figma, photopea

Afternoon Session: Intro to 3D Design

We are in the midst of a manufacturing revolution. New machines and software are now allowing us to produce things we never thought imaginable in our own homes. If the world of 3D modeling and CAD excites you, look no further!

During this week, campers will learn techniques for translating their ideas and sketches into 3D models using design software. We will take a look at how this skill can enable us to rapidly prototype solutions to real-world problems! By the end of this course students will have the knowledge and skills to prototype 3D designs, 3D model these designs, and prepare them to be fabricated! They will gain a basic understanding of 3D design and fabrication, while using professional software, such as TinkerCAD and Fusion 360. They will also gain an understanding of the use of digital fabrication in the world today.

Tech: Vectr, TinkerCAD, Fusion360, OnShape

Week 2: Physical Computing (July 20 - July 24)

Morning or Afternoon Session Tuition: $250/Week-Long Course

Morning AND Afternoon Sessions Tuition: $400/Week-Long Course

Morning Session: Intro to Microcontrollers

Physical computing allows us to build ways for computers to sense and respond to the world around them. For those of us destined to be inventors and entrepreneurs, this is the place for you!

In this week, campers will learn to build and program their own circuits to sense and react to the world around them. They will design and conduct experiments using microcontrollers that give us fascinating data about ourselves and our world. By the end of this week, campers will gain a basic understanding of DC circuitry, and the use of microcontrollers such as Arduino.

Tech: Circuitry, Mechanisms, Arduino/Compatible Microcontroller, C+

Afternoon Session: Intro to Programming

In today’s world, programming has become an essential skill. From devices like laptops and smartphones, to the software that runs on them, almost everything we interact with nowadays runs on programming.

During this week, campers will be exposed to computational thinking. Through fun challenges and activities, they will build an understanding of logic, and scripting. Campers this week will be able to explore programming on the computer through intuitive environments for html, javascript, java, and python, or with microcontrollers. By the end of the week, campers will have a familiarity with concepts that will translate across all programming languages.

Tech: Blocks, Python, P5js, Javascript libraries, Processing

Week 3: Design Engineering (July 27- July 31)

Additional Info:

Our morning session runs from 9:30am - 12:30pm. The afternoon session runs from 1:30pm - 4:30pm. The camp will be conducted remotely via Zoom. A password-protected link will be sent out 30 minutes prior to each session. Campers will also receive a camp t-shirt and kit to support our activities at home.

We believe that all students should have access to high-quality STEM education experiences. As part of our mission to increase STEM accessibility, we are offering scholarships to our summer program that will be facilitated by community organizations
