The 1st Stage Celebration at The Boro will be a hybrid event with two distinct goals: to bring our community together and to raise funds for continued operations at 1st Stage as well as reopening the physical space following the COVID -19 pandemic. This is a reimagining of our annual benefit. With safety as the first priority, this outdoor and livestreamed event will mark the return to live performance for 1st Stage.

Through a partnership with The Meridian Group, the event will take place at Boro Park, an outdoor space in The Boro development, just a short walk from 1st Stage’s physical space. The event will center around a concert reading of A New Brain, by William Finn and James Lapine. 1st Stage was preparing to open this musical when the theatre was closed on March 13, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a musical about hope, recovery, and finding the light under the threat of illness. 1st Stage will engage the original 1st Stage cast and directing team for the event. With a limited outdoor audience, and a companion livestream, this will be the first opportunity for our full community to gather together since our last production in February 2020. In the instance of rain, this event will move to livestream only.
