Are you a lover of nature with a basic knowledge of woody plant ID? Are you looking for a way to help a greater cause while enjoying the great outdoors? Please join us for the second of our seed collection series this year, focusing on fall-ripening fruits and nuts.
You'll learn basic seed biology, tree/ shrub species identification tips, fruiting times, signs of ripening to watch for, responsible collection, and proper storage methods.
At Tree Pittsburgh's Heritage Seedling Nursery we grow our trees from seed. There are lots of opportunities to assist us in the task of finding diverse seed sources, not to mention collection, storage, preparation, and sowing of those seeds. Whether or not you attended Seed Collection 1 in early summer, and whether or not you wish to volunteer with us, this class will expand your knowledge of tree propagation from seed. Warning: you might get hooked!
Please note that dinner is not provided, but you are welcome to bring food with you. We'll spend at least the first half of the class indoors and, weather permitting, will get outside for the second half. Closed-toe shoes are a must for our campus.
This event is suitable for adults and children 16+ years old.
