In honor of Earth Month 🌎 and in celebration of Goodwill SF Bay’s commitment and contributions to sustainable fashion, join us at our San Francisco headquarters to learn basic mending techniques and explore how clothing donation, repair, and reuse can support the slow fashion movement. At our clothing repair workshop, expert instructors will guide you through a variety of techniques to prolong the life of your most well-loved garments. Learn and practice the running stitch, Sashiko stitch, and how to sew on a button. No sewing experience is required! We will provide scrap cloth, needles and thread to practice but if you have an item of clothing that needs mending, please bring it with you.

At the workshop, you’ll also have an opportunity to learn more about the history of Goodwill, our job training services, our sustainability commitments, as well as our donation and secondhand retail centers that make up a vital component of the reuse infrastructure in the Bay Area.

The workshop is free, but we welcome donations of any amount to support our career and job training programs.

Street parking is limited in the area - public transportation is encouraged. We are close to the 27, 38 and 38R MUNI bus routes.

About Your Instructor

Dr. Connie Ulasewicz is a Professor Emerita of Apparel Design & Merchandising from San Francisco State University, with a demonstrated 35+ year career in manufacturing and global business consulting. Her recently released co-authored 3rd edition book, Sustainable Fashion: Take Action, demands that we move to a circular textile and clothing economy. Through the company that she founded, CBU Productions, Connie is a contributing member of the California State Textile Recovery Advisory Committee (STRAC), and strong supporter of clothing life extension through mending and redesign.
