From Maestro Russell Ger:
I happened upon the beautiful phrase "I hear water dreaming" during my research for this program. The generating concept for this concert was a piece I heard performed in Chicago in 2013 when I was there for an audition with the Chicago Symphony. The piece was by the young composer Mason Bates, and it made such an impression on me that I have remembered both the music and its title, Liquid Interface, ever since.
It is a seamless blend of orchestra with electronic and digital sounds and beats and it is riveting. The program opens with Smetana’s beloved Vltava, named for the mighty river that courses through the Czech Republic, while the second half will include some of the most irresistible orchestral selections from Wagner's Ring Cycle, beginning with the hero Siegfried's Rhine River Journey.
Bedřich Smetana: Vltava
Mason Bates: Liquid Interface
Richard Wagner: Orchestral excerpts from The Ring
